Touring Favorite Neighborhoods: Hamilton Heights, Sugar Hill & Audubon Park (1)

This event kicks off a series in which I will feature a narrated slide show about some of my favorite NYC neighborhoods. I have scheduled our next virtual tour for this Sunday this as the weather looks to be better on Saturday for spending time outdoors. 

What are my criteria for a favorite neighborhood? Beautiful architecture, interesting history, diversity of culture and access to green space and parks. 

This is the area of Upper Manhattan where I live and I love sharing the highlights which include: the magnificent City College campus; the historic homes and mansions; apartment buildings were famous people lived such as Duke Ellington and Ralph Ellison; community gardens; access to the Hudson riverfront; and interesting streetscapes and views. 

In addition, these neighborhoods feature the Audubon Mural Project which is a joint initiative between the Audubon Society and local artists to paint murals of all the bird species whose existence is threatened due to climate change. I will showcase some of the 117 murals that have been painted so far. 

Area covered: West 138th - 160th Streets in Manhattan.
