About the event
New York City has a rich and multi-layered history of the struggles and achievements of the Black community. This virtual presidentation and tour will allow us to go back in time to the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries as we weave together the past and present. We'll visit a wide variety of neighborhoods and sites that figure prominently in the Black Experience in New York City and get to know many of the key people whose influence can still be felt today. Many of the sites are museums and locations are open to the public and can also enrich our knowledge of NYC as a whole.
In Brooklyn, these include the historic Weeksville neighborhood, the Bridge Street African Wesleyan Methodist Episcopal Church in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Medgar Evers College, and the Jackie Robinson House in Flatbush — along with the nearby site of the former Ebbets Field. In Manhattan, we will see…
